Shillong, Oct 25: Following inputs received of extortion in commercial centres at Police Bazar and lewduh, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills Police laid a trap and arrested four persons from Police Bazar who were caught serving extortion notes to one of the shops. In this regard a suo-motu case has been registered at Sadar Police station for extortion against the four arrested persons and the following items were also seized from their possession:
1. Three numbers of extortion letters of Hynniewtrep People Defense Alliance (HPDA).
2. Three numbers of extortion receipt books of Hynniewtrep People Defense Alliance (HPDA).
3. Two donation receipt slips of United Khasi Movement (UKM).
4. Two donation receipt slips of Federation of Khasi United People (FKUP).
5. Two donation receipt slips of Confederation of Meghalaya People (CMP).
6. One counterfoil receipt slips of Khun Hynniewtrep Youth Council (KHYC).
7. Two donation receipt slips of Hynniewtrep Youth Regions (HYR).
8. One scooty Aprilla ML05 Q 9828.
9. Four nos of mobile phones.
Police said interrogation is on to ascertain outlets/establishments where extortion notes were served for registering more cases against the culprits and to nab other persons/groups who are involved in the extortion racket in the city. Some of the accused also have criminal records and were earlier arrested.
Police asked the public and business establishments to give information to the police so as to arrest such extortionists and for taking legal action.
