Police bust newly formed outfit; chairman held      

 Shillong, Oct 1: Police have busted a newly formed militant outfit, Achik National Socialist Council (ANSC) and arrested its self-styled chairman and ten others in West Garo Hills.

Police said during a series of counterinsurgency operations, the self-styled chairman of the outfit identified as Chekam Ch Sangma was arrested from Hawakhana, Tura on September 25, and several documents including hand written notes and pocket diary were recovered.

Sangma told the police that he formed the outfit with around 25-30 likeminded supporters and they are in the process of drafting the constitution and collecting weapons.

Other arrested persons include self styled vice chairman Wallison B Marak and members Chijang A Sangma @ Tejang @ Jimmy, Krinsbar B Marak @ Sopei @ Silang, Arbas B Marak @ Roson @ Jonbath, Raking A Sangma @ Kasrang, Juliash N Sangma @ Jelius @ Selius, Chekam R Marak @ Chekand, Hereson K Sangma @ Mikdep, Daniel B Marak @Deny and Nathalie R Marak.

At least 20 more persons are also part of the group.

Two SBML guns (in picture) and one 9mm pistol were recovered from the possession of the group.

Police said they admitted about their involvement in several criminal cases besides smuggling of weapons and cases of vehicle theft in Garo Hills.

They had also planned to form an NGO with the name AKMA with a purpose of extorting money to fund the outfit.
