Shillong, April 10: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that police would be able to stop illegal mining and transportation of coal.
He was replying to a question by reporters on Monday as to whether the Meghalaya police would be able to do the job instead of deploying the central industrial security force (CISF).
“I had replied in the Assembly, that the police force would be able to do the job but the only point is that the police cannot be there 24 x 7 and even if they are present, still criminal activities will keep on happening”, Tynsong said.
He admitted that a court ruling is there regarding the need to deploy the CISF.
“I cannot say anything right now if the government would appeal against the court order or not. In fact a letter has been sent even to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), to the concerned organisation where ultimately they are not able to provide additional forces,” he added.
