
Shillong, Nov 25: Police probe is on to ascertain whether the death of a woman from Malki was accidental or due to rash driving or whether there was any premeditated attempt to throw her off the car,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, police said they are examining CCTV, statement of the accused boy friend Edward Roger Ryntatiang and others.
The accused was arrested but later released on bail.
The victim is 26-year-old Phidarisha Jyrwa
The incident took place around 11.50 pm.
“She was picked up by her boyfriend from a wedding at All Saints Hall here and from there they proceeded towards Police Bazar but near the DC Office junction she was seen falling off the car. There were witnesses who had seen her falling out of the car,” Syiem said.
“The victim died on November 13 at Woodland Hospital. We got medical report regarding the cause of death also which is trauma due to injury to the spine,” he said.
The SP said that the boyfriend, driver of the car, was released on bail.
His vehicle was also seized.
“Right now investigation is on to ascertain whether it was accidental or rash driving or whether there was any premeditated attempt to throw her of the car,” Syiem said”.
The victim’s brother filed an FIR on November 10, seeking swift police action.
