Police seize over 40 k bottles of cough syrup in EJH

Shillong, Oct 3: Police have seized 44,900 bottles of cough syrup in East Jaintia Hills on Tuesday.

Police said on Tuesday evening, the officer-in charge Lumshnong, Inspector Mathius Sangma received information that around  2.20 pm, while conducting checking near Lumshnong police station on NH-06, it was observed that two trucks coming from opposite direction , one coming from Khliehriat side and the other coming from Umkiang side had the same registration number JK02 AU 5651.

The two trucks were asked to stop for verification but only one of the trucks coming from Umkiang stopped when given signal while the truck coming from Khliehriat  refused to comply and instead drove rashly ahead.

The truck was then chased by the staff from Lumshnong PS, but the driver abandoned the truck on the NH and fled.

The truck was brought to Lumshnong police station as it was suspected to be carrying contraband. The  truck was then searched in the presence of independent witness additional SP Jason Myrom  as gazetted police officer.

After observing all legal formalities, from the truck 150 bags containing 44900 bottles of 100 ml each of the banned Phyensedyl were recovered.

In this regard a case is being registered at Lumshnong PS and necessary legal action is initiated to arrest the accused persons.
