Police sound alert after 4 arson cases in last 24 hours

Shillong, Sept 17: After the petrol bomb attacks on the office of the directorate of mineral resources department and Landing police station on Wednesday( Sept 16), two more cases were reported on Thursday ( Sept 17).

Following the incident, police have urged institutions and petrol pumps to be alert.

Police said information was received around  3,27 am on Thursday, one vehicle was burnt inside health complex .Directorate of Health Services after petrol bombs were hurled.

Another incident was reported around  3.55 am by a  passe rby(lady) to the effect that police booth at Nongmensong bazar has been set on fire.

During investigation and on reaching  the spot, it was found that the police booth placed on the junction  on the way to Umling BSF was set on fire by miscreants using a vehicle tyre.

The fire was doused off with the help of fire and emergency service.

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong  asserted that  such criminal acts will not be tolerated.
Stating that security is being tightened, Tynsong said he has directed the DGP to act more proactively and ordered installation of more CCTVs and intensified patrolling in the city.
“That is being taken care of by the police and I have already instructed the DGP to be more proactive,” he said.
Earlier, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Comissioner has asked heads of departments and owners of petrol pumps  to be vigilant.
