
Shillong , Sept 18: Police suspected KSU activities, who were moving in a scooty, for causing injuries to additional SP ( traffic) Lovish Garg, who was on duty.

On 18th Sept 2026 at about 1:30am, while police personnel were conducting naka checking at Urkaliar near Samkhamti Petrol Pump as part of the law and order arrangements. one scooty with two males attempted to evade the police checking and proceeded aggressively without stopping, despite directing them to stop
To prevent their escape, Shri. Lovish Garg, IPS,Additional Superintendent of Police, Traffic, EKH, intervened and signalled the rider to stop. However, instead of stopping, the scooty accelerated and hit the Additional Superintendent of Police, causing him serious injuries. He was immediately rushed to Woodland Hospital for emergency medical treatment and has been shifted to the HD Unit for further medical treatment.The circumstances indicate that the act was deliberate and appears to have been intended to cause grevious injury to the officer and escape from being checked.
A case is being registered for attempt to murder.
The accused are suspected to be members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU). The motive for their movement at that hour of the night and attempting to escape the naka is being ascertained through a thorough investigation.
The police reiterate that strict naka/checking operations will continue in the interest of public safety and maintenance of law and order. All persons are expected to comply with lawful directions issued by police during such operations. Any attempt to evade police checking or act in contravention against police on duty will be dealt with firmly in accordance with law.
