
Shillong, Aug 12: Police have registered a suo motu case after the sixth Bangladeshi intruder was brought dead to a health centre in South West Khasi Hills following an assault.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the South West Khasi Hills SP, B Jyrwa, said “a suo motu case vide Nonghyllam PS Case No.10/2025, U/S 103(1) BNS has been registered and investigation is in progress to ascertain facts and circumstances leading to the incident”.
Giving the background of the matter, the SP said that on August 11 at 4:30 pm, the staff of Nonghyllam Police Station received information that the villagers of Kaithakona village, Nonghyllam PS, South West Khasi Hills District had found one seriously injured Bangladeshi national in their village who identified himself as Akram.
“Later on, the villagers handed him over to the BSF of 01 Battalion camp Kaithakona. Thereafter, the BSF and staff of Nonghyllam PS, after seeing that the person had suffered serious injuries, rushed him to Maheshkola PHC, but due to the absence of a Medical & Health Officer at the PHC, he was rushed to Khonjoy PHC in the Maheshkola PHC’s Ambulance, where he was declared brought dead by the Medical & Health Officer”, the SP said.
The body was brought by the staff of Nonghyllam PS to Civil Hospital, Mawkyrwat, for conducting an inquest by the Magistrate and for post-mortem examination in the presence of the magistrate as mandated by NHRC guidelines, the SP added.
