Shillong, June 10: BJP’s South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has taken a different stand compared to state party leaders on the defeat of the BJP supported candidates in Shillong and Tura.
Before the celebration of the state leadership for the return of the party at the Centre, Sanbor told reporters that the defeat was since the party did not put up candidates in Meghalaya.
The BJP MLA also said that he got over 14,000 votes in the Assembly polls but it was reduced to over 7,000 in his assembly segment.
According to Sanbor, he is not sure whether to stick with the BJP or join any other party.
He said the BJP is supporting the NPP considering the power and position one gets under the arrangement.
However, both the chief spokesperson M Kharkrang and spokesperson Arnab Das downplayed the views of Sanbor.
Both the party functionaries said the state leadership will strengthen itself to win the next elections.
“After historic third mandate at the Centre , the BJP Meghalaya is preparing to widen grass root base in state”, Kharkrang said.
The state unit of the BJP extended congratulations to the Modi goverment at the center, a development that has filled every leader and member of the party in Meghalaya, with renewed vigour and aspiration, said Kharkrang.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by state president Rikman G Momin, who was accompanied by a 14-member state delegation, which included state Vice Presidents Gagan Jain, Riya Sangma, State General Secretary Wankit Pohshna and State Mahila Morcha President Susuki Pariat.
“With the BJP led NDA goverment back in the nation’s helm of affairs, the BJP Meghalaya is set to ensure that the people friendly and pro poor policies of the Central goverment reach every nook and corner of the state over the next five years”, Kharkrang said.
According to Kharkrang, the historic third mandate to Modi Ji has galvanised every member of the party and under the guidance of president Rikman G Momin, the state unit is ready to strengthen its mass appeal among the citizens of Meghalaya.
State BJP is strengthening its organisation at every level and aims to increase its member base manifolds in future, he said.
Kharkrang further commented, “Our best wishes are with Shri Narendra Modi Ji and his experienced council of Ministers. Over the last decade, the Central Govt, under the leadership of our Honourable Prime Minister has created policies for the benefit of every section of society, especially for those who until now had remained deprived. Our mission is to ensure that these schemes, aimed at uplifting the lives of ordinary citizens, reach every citizen of the state and BJP has scripted history by winning in Kerala, where the Christian community voted in large numbers for our candidate. We in Meghalaya find it encouraging as it shows that people cutting across religious lines now look upon the party for development and a reflection of this will be seen in our state as well”.
