Full statement of the DC below

“The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, wishes to address recent media reports concerning the violent incident at CM’s Mini Secretariat, Tura on July 24th, 2023.

Contrary to some circulating reports, it is hereby clarified that the undersigned did not reject the statements made by the Director General of Police (DGP) about the nature and the scope of the violent incident.

The undersigned will like to state that the police investigation and the magisterial inquiry ordered in the aftermath of the July 24th mob violence at Tura will bring the evidence to the fore about the premeditated attempt or a conspiracy to harm the Hon’ble Chief Minister (CM) on that day when a mob engaged in stone-pelting and arson while discussions were underway between Hon’ble CM and the representatives of the pressure groups inside the CM’s mini-secretariat at Tura.

The preliminary information shows that a set of elements who instigated the mob were behind the violent incident and had ulterior motives to cause such unrest, harm and violence.

At present, it is premature to completely rule out the possibility of pre-planning by these anti-social elements. The magisterial inquiry report will provide clarity on the matter.

The earlier recorded statement was made in a different context as was understood at the time by the undersigned. Any misunderstanding in this regard is unintentional. The Deputy Commissioner’s office is fully committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice. Transparency is our priority, and we will continue to update as new information arises”.
