Prof. Monotosh Chakravarty of St Edmund’s College no more

Shillong, June 22: Professor Monotosh Chakravarty, the vice-principal of St Edmund’s College in the city, passed away at Peerless Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday. He was 64.
Chakravarty, who taught English and headed the English Department at St Edmund’s College before becoming the vice-principal, was unwell for a few months. He studied in Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School and was an alumnus of St Edmund’s College.
Besides being a beloved professor and great educationist, Chakravarty was a dynamic personality who played a crucial role in several annual events in the city. As a founding member of the Zenith Jubilieth Club in Laban, he was the face of almost all the events organised by the club.
When Meghalaya Monitor featured the club on its 52nd anniversary, Chakravarty, then vice-president of the club, was vocal about the “unsupportive state machinery for Zenith’s current condition”.
