Prosecution seeks maximum punishment for convicted cop

Shillong,March 25: The prosecution on Friday sought maximum punishment for the convicted police officer Nurul Islam.

Though the quantum of punishment was to be delivered on Friday, the order will be out on Monday.

Islam, who was the officer-in charge of Ampati police station, was convicted  on Thursday for raping two minor sisters in 2013.

On Friday, the public prosecutor, Evalarisha Rynjah wanted life imprisonment for Islam besides fine.

However, the defendant had asked for minimum sentence.

According to the public prosecutor,  the accused had pleaded not guilty.
