Raja Raghuvanshi murder case will soon be on silver screen
Mumbai director approaches family; brother says reason to support this film is to ensure truth reaches as many people as possible

Indore, July 31: The Raja Raghuvanshi murder case is yet to be solved. However, this has not stopped a Mumbai-based director from taking the story of the honeymoon crime to the silver screen.
The filmmaker, SP Nimbawat, has announced a movie based on this incident and has already initiated discussions with Raja’s family to begin work on the project.
Tentative posters for the film have been released. Titled Honeymoon in Shillong (Raja Raghuvanshi), the film is being produced by Varsha TV & Film Production, Mumbai.
According to Raja’s elder brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, “We had previously received offers to make a film, but we declined. We kept thinking about how the image of Meghalaya and Shillong was unfairly damaged due to this incident and because of Sonam. Neither the people there nor Raja was at fault, yet they had to suffer the consequences. It hurts us every day that Raja will never come back.”
“Our only reason for supporting this film is to ensure that the truth reaches as many people as possible. It is also our way of expressing gratitude towards the people of Meghalaya and Shillong. We have no intention of getting any financial benefits from this movie because no amount of money can bring Raja back. All we want is to share the truth with the world,” he added.
Dainik Bhaskar, a local news daily, quoted the director as saying that this was a “deeply tragic incident”.
The director said the case was hyped so much that it reached Mumbai, prompting the decision to make a film on it.
According to sources, the script is ready. The film will be shot in both Indore and Shillong, and local actors will also be roped in.
“Through this film, we want to seek justice for Raja and also help restore the image of Shillong, its tourism, its people, and the damage done to their lives,” Sachin said, adding, “Vipin (Raja’s younger brother) is currently in Shillong and has often told us how supportive the people there have been. He has also mentioned how highly women are respected in Shillong. But this incident and Sonam’s actions have negatively impacted the image of women as well. That’s why we want this film to be made and shared widely.”
Recently, there were rumours that Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan was planning to make a movie on the murder case. However, the actor denied the reports.
