Rakkam for status quo, HSPDP wants 80 pc reservation
Shillong June 25: NPP leader and cabinet minister Rakkam Sangma has warned of legal scrutiny if there is any change in the state reservation policy.
Sangma told reporters that there is need to wait for the suggestions and recommendations of the Expert Committee constituted by the state government on the state reservation policy.
He also referred to the constitutional provision and the Supreme Court judgement about the ceiling of 50% reservation for any state,
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has asserted the need to have a combined 80 percent reservation for Khasi-Jaintia and Garo to prevent deprivation or discriminatory on ethnic identity.
In its memorandum to the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy, HSPDP president KP Pangniang said that there is a need to review the reservation policy dated January 12, 1972 for overall growth in terms of employment taking into account the different categories of the society.
