Rakkam to pursue increase of seats in college of teacher education

Diamond Jubilee celebration begins

Shillong, Sep 26: Education Minister Rakkam Sangma said on Tuesday that the government will try to increase the seats in College of Teacher Education from the current 50 seats to 100.

“We will write to the concerned authorities both in Shillong and Tura to increase the seats”, Rakkam said on the sidelines of the diamond jubilee celebration of College of Teacher Education, Shillong.

Earlier, while addressing the gathering, he expressed concern over 18,000 teachers not being trained in the state .

He said efforts will be made to train the teachers.

The minister said responsibility and commitment is greater than diploma and certificates.

He was glad that the the college of teacher education produced 3000 teachers till date.

The president of the managing body of the college, WL Lyngdoh said that the college is surviving on the fees of 50 students.

According to Lyngdoh, the aim is to achieve more excellence in the field of education.

Advisor to education department, HM Shangpliang appealed to the faculty to beĀ  ready for changes and to familiarise themselves with Artificial Intelligence.

The chief guest along with Dr M A Jyrwa, Principal, College of Teacher Education and other dignitaries unveiled the College Diamond Jubilee Logo & Theme.
