Shillong, Aug 18:The Chief Information Commissioner, Rebecca Suchiang, passed away on Tuesday( Aug 18).
She completed 64 years on July 27.
Suchiang was undergoing treatment since Thursday at NEIGRIHMS, where she passed away around 5 am.
She even attended the office last week, said her colleague and information commissioner Ripnar Lyngdoh
She is survived by her husband Dinesh Aibor Jayal Sawkmie (61) and
three sons- Daniel Ebor Challam (30)
David Ebor Challam(27) and
Disraeli Ebor Challam ( 24)
The funeral service will start on August 20 at 2 pm at her residence in Kenche’s Trace followed by burial at Lawmali Presbyterian Cemetery.
Rebecca was the first indigenous woman chief secretary and the first chief information commissioner. She had held various administrative posts.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma condoled her death.
“Grieved by the passing of former Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, Kong Rebecca V. Suchiang. As the first indigenous woman Chief Secretary, Kong Rebecca made bold decisions at tough times and was respected for her leadership among her peers, her guidance to her juniors and her inspiring work ethic. She fought bravely during her illness and continued to work even after it. Her service and dedication to the state will be remembered. Extend my deepest condolences to her family and her loved ones. May she rest in peace”, the CM wrote on X.
