Relatives of victims of violence demand justice

Shillong, April 15: The relatives of the three victims of violence-two in Ichamati and one in Mawlai Mawroh- demanded justice and protection during a condolence meeting convened by the Meghalaya Linguistic Minority Development Forum (MLMDF) on Sunday.

The meeting held at the meditation hall of Aurobindo Ashram in the city was chaired by MLMDF president SK Choudhury.

The parents of late Insan Singh and Sujit Dutta said the family members are facing difficult times as their livelihood is affected.

Insan Singh’s father said the government should provide job to one of his siblings.

One of the residents from Ichamati narrated the denial of basic civic amenities and welfare schemes to the border residents.

After the meeting, the son of late Arjun Ray (52), who is also a daily wage earner said the police should arrest those who were involved in the crime on April 10. The family, originally from Vaishali district of Bihar,  is currently residing at Lailad, Nongmensong.

Earlier, those who attended the meeting  observed one-minute silence, prayed for the departed souls and offered floral tribute.

The members from MLMDF also handed over framed condolence messages to the families  after reading them.

A donation box was kept to help the families in distress.

Choudhury announced that the collection through donation was over Rs 61,000 but it was decided to hand over Rs 25,000 each to the families of three victims.
After the cash was handed over, the MLMDF assured to support the families and also decide to voice the concerns of those who are in distress.
