Shillong,April 9: Former Rajya Sabha member Robert Kharshiing (63), who passed away on April 7, was laid to rest at Laitumkhrah Catholic Cemetery on Saturday.
Funeral service started in the afternoon at his residence at Fidelis Cottage, Laitumkhrah attended by relatives, friends and people from different walks of life.
As Robert was the president of KSU from 1981 to 83, several KSU leaders and activists were present at the funeral to pay respect to the departed soul.
They draped the coffin with KSU flag and placed wreath on the coffin.
Among those who spoke about the contribution of Robert was Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Dr Balajied Syiem.
Brother of Robert, John Kharshiing read out condolence messages from personalities and organisations.
Later, the coffin containing Robert’s mortal remains was taken to Laitumkhrah Catholic Cemetery as people accompanied the casket on foot.
This was followed by the burial of the mortal remains at the cemetery.
