Robertjune Kharjahrin is RDA candidate for Shillong LS seat
Shillong, Dec 19: Former Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) president Robertjune Kharjahrin will be the candidate of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) comprising both the UDP and the HSPDP, to contest the Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
The decision was taken jointly by the UDP and the HSPDP after a meeting of the RDA held on Tuesday, HSPDP president KP Pangniang said.
Kharjahrin had joined the UDP last month.
After the RDA meeting, the RDA chairman and UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh said, “The UDP and HSPDP have unanimously come to a consensus to field Robertjune Kharjahrin as the alliance’s candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat.”
It was also agreed that the common candidate will use the symbol of the UDP during the election campaigning and polling day.
Earlier, along with Kharjahrin, Khasi Author’s Society president Dr DRL Nonglait and former Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie were also contenders for the UDP ticket. Later, Dr Nonglait decided to come out of the race for the UDP ticket as he wanted to pursue the demand for inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.
