Saket seeks HC intervention into election expenditure of NPP

Shillong, Dec 14: The national spokesperson of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Saket Gokhale has sought the intervention of High Court of Meghalaya into the failure of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) to file its election expenditure report within 75 days of the State Assembly elections in 2018.

Gokhale, in his plea, cited the failure of the Election Commission of India and the state Chief Electoral Officer to take necessary action against the NPP for flouting the law.

As per the orders of the  Supreme Court of India and the subsequent rules framed by the Election Commission of India, political parties are required to file their election expenditure reports with the Chief Electoral Officer of the state within 75 days of assembly election or 90 days of Lok Sabha elections.

It is not only shocking but also appalling to witness how the NPP is weakening the pillars of democracy at their whims and fancies, a statement in this regard said.
