Salahuddin gets travel clearance

Shillong, June 13: Bangladesh politician Salahuddin Ahmed, who was acquitted of charges of illegal entry into Shillong, has secured travel clearance to enter Bangladesh.

Salahuddin, who is camping in Shillong, said on Wednesday that he got travel clearance  from Assistant High Commissioner to Bangladesh in Guwahati last Monday. Some formalities from Indian side are also pending, he said.

“I will have to go to Delhi for check up before my departure to Bangladesh from Meghalaya”, he said.

On February 28 this year, the court of the additional deputy commissioner, Shillong had upheld the 2018 order of acquittal of Salahuddin by the first class judicial magistrate.

Salahuddin, a former minister, associated with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was arrested in Shillong in May 2015 for illegal entry but his statement was that he was kidnapped and the abductors blindfolded him and dumped in Golf Links, Polo.

He went ‘missing’ in March 2015 only to be found in Shillong after two months.
