Shillong,Sep 26: BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai said the party is in favour of consultation with NPP before fielding any candidate.
“We are in the coalition with the NPP, if the Centre decides to field any candidate for both Shillong and Tura, then it should be informed to both the chief minister and state party president WR Kharlukhi”, Shullai said.
To s question whether he will be ready to be the candidate, Shullai said the party members should be ready for any responsibility given to them.
Both Sanbor and cabinet minister AL Hek welcomed the decision of the Centre to appoint Rikman Momin as the new state president.
Hek said the central leaders will decide as to who will contest both Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats.
Only the Voice of the People Party (VPP) announced the candidate for Shillong seat.
Ricky AJ Syngkon is the party candidate.
NPP member and cabinet minister Rakkam Sangma downplayed the threat of VPP in the Lok Sabha polls by saying that it will not make any impact.
“I don’t think so because to have an impact on the entire state may be a dream for them but it is very challenging for them,” he said.
Rakkam said the VPP is a new party. “They (VPP) have to groom and they have to be inspired because to be a politician, to be a leader and to run a political party it is a big thing,” Rakkam said.
“For any political party just to make things change in overnight it is impossible. It will be a very difficult journey for any political party, for any individual and for any leaders,” he said.
