Sankardev College holds grand finale of diamond jubilee celebrations

Shillong, Sept 2: Sankardev College, Shillong on Friday held the grand finale of its diamond jubilee celebrations at the newly constructed college auditorium.

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the PG Block (South Wing), lift and the auditorium funded from RUSA 2.0 and college fund.

The chief guest also felicitated the meritorious students of the college who secured positions in the NEHU examinations with the Academic Award of Excellence.

The college anthem and the Diamond Jubilee Souvenir were also released.

The rich cultural heritage of the region was showcased through performances by the students of the college which included the traditional dances of the Khasi, Jaintia, Garo, Arunachal, Assamese and Nepali. The six-decade journey of the college was depicted in a video presentation which highlighted the various achievements of the institution from its inception to where it stands currently.

A medley song performance and a drum ensemble from the faculty of the College were special attractions. The students also performed a short skit on various themes entitled ‘Reflections’.

The principal of the College, Dr Eureka. FP Lyngdoh, in her welcome address, reminisced the achievements of the college and how it has come a long way since its humble beginning on September 2 in 1962.

K. Chyne, Vice Principal of the college proposed vote of thanks. The programme was hosted by MS Warjri and Dr. R. Nongrum, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) coordinators of the college.

The programme was attended by officials from the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), state RUSA cell, the president and members of the governing body of the college, principals of different colleges and special invitees.
