Sankardev College holds workshop on NEP 2020
Shillong, Aug 4: One-day state level workshop on “Implementation of NEP 2020 at the Foundational Stage: Issues and Concerns” was organised on Friday at Sankardev College.
The Departments of Education, Khasi, History and English, Sankardev Colleg in collaboration with Directorate of School Education and Literacy – Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Education Department, Government of Meghalaya, organised the event sponsored by State Bank of India, Kenches Trace Branch, Shillong .
Swapnil Tembe, State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha & Director of School Education and Literacy, graced the inaugural session as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Tembe emphasised that the Foundational Stage which includes education of children below the age of 8 years is crucial years of brain development. Hence, a robust foundation in early childhood is vital as it provides a strong basis and adversely affect the performance of students in higher education. He informed the gathering that on the third anniversary of the NEP 2020, the Prime Minister of India stressed on the need for a full implementation the policy for the benefit of the students right from the early childhood.
At the inaugural session, Dr. I. S. Syiem, Associate Professor, Department of Education gave a presentation on the theme of the workshop. The Principal of the College, Dr. Eureka. F. P. Lyngdoh delivered the welcome address and Dr. Reena Singh, Vice Principal proposed the vote of thanks.
The Resource persons for the workshop included Singje Ch Marak, State Early Childhood Care and Education Coordinator, DSEL, Shillong, who deliberated on the topic “Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) under NCF 2022, Mary Wanpli Lynrah, State Pedagogy Coordinator & Nodal Officer for Implementation of FLN in Meghalaya, DSEL, Shillong who spoke on “Foundational Literacy and Numeracy as envisioned in the NCF 2022”, Dr. Melissa G. Wallang ,Head, Department of Languages and Social Sciences, North-East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), NCERT who presented on the theme “Language and Multilingualism in the Classroom: Opportunities and Challenges” and Dr. Prachi Ghildyal, Assistant Professor in Psychology, Department of Education, North-East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), NCERT, Umiam, who presented on the topic “psychological health and well-being of pre-school children”.
The moderators for the technical session were Dr. S. Swer, Associate Professor, Department of Khasi and Dr. R. Kharkongor, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
The workshop was attended by teachers from 54 schools.
The vote of thanks at the valedictory session was proposed by Dr. S. Diamai, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
