SC makes Teacher Eligibility Test mandatory within 2 years

Shillong, Sept 23: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is mandatory according to a recent Supreme Court order.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rymbui said all the teachers will have to clear TET within two years, otherwise they will lose their jobs.

He pointed out that there was a Supreme Court order on this matter on September 1.

The exemption is only for those teachers who are set to retire within 5 years, but they will not get a promotion, he said.

Around 15,000 teachers will be affected by the order.

However, Rymbui said the government may file an appeal in the court.
