Tura, Aug 6: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Wednesday retrieved the body of Agriculture Officer Teseng M. Sangma from Banseng Wari, which is located in the downstream area of the Ganol River.
Re-commencing its operations early in the morning on Wednesday, the SDRF faced challenges to retrieve the body of the deceased officer despite locating it as it was lodged between river boulders, and the strong currents posed a risk to the personnel.
However, the body was finally extricated from the river by guiding its passage downstream using ropes, from where it was then brought to the shore.
State Director of Civil Defence MK Sangma was also present on the site and supervised the retrieval of the body.
Located in a remote and inaccessible area, the SDRF team is now engaged in transporting the body from Banseng Wari to the nearest road through rough and treacherous terrain.
The body of the deceased officer was located from the downstream area of the Ganol River after four days of SAR operations by SDRF, other agencies and local volunteers.
