Search & Rescue Team yet to find three missing fishermen

Shillong, June 18: The government has deputed District Search & Rescue Team (SRT) to find out the three missing fishermen in West Khasi Hills.

They went missing on June 17 morning while fishing at the Sdad Dylla area of the Wah Blei river under Maweit.


They are yet to be found and besides SRT, Fire & Emergency Service, Shillong is also on standby, an official said on Sunday.

The missing persons are from Maweit and they have been identified as Shillingbest Langrin (40), Kmenlang Nonglang (28) and  Hubert Marthong (41)

No trace of missing woman

The body of Gracefully Jyrwieh (30), a victim of road accident in Mawsynram area during incessant rain on June 13, is yet to be traced.

The vehicle in which she and five others were travelling plunged into a gorge on the way to Thieddieng village.

The body of her husband Defender Boney was recovered later along with the bodies of four others.

With this, four persons are missing while eight people were killed in Khasi Hills region in rain- related incident since June 1.

Casualty till date from June 

June 1: Body of Shine Lyngdoh recovered from a culvert of Session’s Court, Nongpoh after he fell down at a drain at NH-6 while crossing veterinary office during heavy rain.

June 13:  Five killed after their vehicle plunged into a gorge in an area under Mawsynram during heavy rain. The deceased from Thieddieng village are Defender Boney (28-male), Edwis Sohtun (38-female), Atiar B.Lynser (40-male) and one baby girl.

Another deceased Chamberlain Sohtun (52- (male) is from Thieddieng Nongthymmai.

The body of Gracefully Jyrwieh (30), wife of Defender from Thieddieng, is missing.

June 17: Two siblings identified as Cafinia Nongsiej (15) and Maya Nongsiej (10) were killed in a mud-slide incident in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills. In a separate incident, three fishermen from Maweit from the district are missing.
