Shillong, Oct 8: The body of a second child was found in Nongrah in less than a month.
A seven-year-old boy, identified as Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, was recovered from a forest at Mawpat on Thursday morning. He went missing from Lum Myrboh Nongrah around 4 pm on Wednesday.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that it was a homicide.
The police have launched a probe into the matter, and a case will be registered.
The formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is likely, given the nature of the crime.
According to the SP, preliminary investigation has suggested that the body was placed at the site where it was recovered.
The boy was an orphan and lived with his aunt.
Last month, a 13-year-old boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) for his alleged involvement in the death of a four-year-old girl at Nongrah Nonglum Brei.
Syiem said while it was too early to rule out any connection with other cases, the police would investigate all possibilities.
“Right now, I don’t see a connection. It could be an isolated case because the accused in the first case has already been ascertained and identified. Nonetheless, we will investigate all aspects,” he said.
Syiem emphasised the need for vigilance and precautionary measures, such as installing CCTV cameras, lighting public areas, and monitoring children. He also urged locals to report any suspicious activity to the police emergency number 112.
