Second part of women’s panel probe to focus on MCA functionaries

Shillong, June 9: After indicting the head coach and the assistant manager of Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) for alleged sexual harassment of women cricketers, the Women’s Commission is focusing on the four functionaries- retired and present – for their alleged complicity.

The report of the second part of the inquiry will be prepared by the commission.

The commission recommended action against the head coach and the assistant manager for sexual harassment in its report submitted to the MCA for action.

While the head coach will face suspension, the service of the assistant manager will be terminated based on the women’s panel’s recommendations.

An official source said that though the sexual harassment case is a cognisable offence, which can lead to registration of the FIR by the police, the mandate of the commission was to recommend action by the MCA.

Moreover, the complainants did not want to pursue the matter legally.

Chairperson of the commission, Iamonlang Syiem and legal head Joy Syiem explained on Tuesday (June 9) that in the first part of the inquiry, six complainants and two accused were examined, following which recommendations were made to take action against the head coach and the assistant manager as they were involved in sexually harassing the state women’s cricket team members.
