Second phase of border talks to begin soon

Shillong, April 18: The state government will soon start the second phase of border talks with Assam for the remaining six areas of difference.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Monday the state government wanted to “immediately” start the talks.

He added that several traditional heads from Block I and II, Psiar and Khanduli met him recently and urged the government to start joint inspection in these areas difference.

When asked, Tynsong said, “I can’t say anything as the decision lies with the chief ministers of the two states. Whenever they say, ‘yes let us start taking up the second phase’, then we will start.”

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had informed that the second phase of border talks will take place in June-July.
