Shillong feels the heat at 28.8°C; umbrella saviour in blazing sun
Shillong, Sept 26: The sun has been blazing over Shillong for the past few days, and on Friday, the heat became unbearable.
According to the India Meteorological Department reports, the maximum temperature in Shillong on Friday was 28.8°C, which was 5.7°C departure from normal. The real feel was 33°C. This was the fourth highest maximum temperature recorded for Shillong in September.
In Sohra, the maximum temperature rose to 30.8°C, 7.2°C above the normal and all-time 10th highest.
There is a forecast of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in isolated areas.
In the morning and afternoon, most of the pedestrians in the city were seen with umbrellas to save themselves from the blazing sun.
“The heat has been bad for the last few days. For people like us who have to be under the sun the whole day, it becomes unbearable. Each year, the heat is increasing,” said Ajay, a vendor near Police Bazaar.
A young professional, who was on her way to the office in Laitumkhrah, told Meghalaya Monitor that she was carrying lemonade to keep herself cool. “I usually walk to office, but today I have to take a cab,” she said while waiting for a local taxi in Laban.
