Shullai meets Union minister, wants traditional market in Mawlai CRPF camp

Shillong,Jan 20: BJP MLA & cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai urged the Centre to set up a traditional market at Mawlai CRPF camp.

He, along with state president Rikman Momin and other senior leaders of the party met union tourism and culture minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at his residence in New Delhi. During the meeting, Shullai made a request to the minister to initiate various cultural schemes in Meghalaya so as to safeguard the traditional Seng Khasi and Seng Raid culture and Songsarek Garo culture.

Shullai stressed that a cultural heritage and traditional market that will showcase the richness of North East need to be set up in Mawlai CRPF camp and requested the union minister to visit the area to ascertain the need which shall boost the cultural tourism initiative of the department.

Shullai also urged the tourism minister to initiate tourism development scheme in South Shillong constituency alongside the ropeway project as it will generate direct or indirect employment for the local people.

Earlier on Monday, the group met union minister for road and transport Nitin Gadkari to apprise the minister on the delay in completion of 4-lane road from Umshyrpi to Sadew and also to highlight the drainage issue in Shillong Cantonment area which has been lying unattended by the NHIDCL.

He also apprised the minister on the urgent need of a flyover from Barik to Jhalupara taxi stand to ease traffic congestion around the area. The union minister assured to take up the issue with defence ministry for land allotment to NHIDCL for the flyover project . Union minister suggested to constitute an infrastructure development committee for early completion of the flyover.
