Sikkim poet first in NE to win Emily Dickinson International Award
Shillong, Jan 19: Sikkim-based poet Devansh Rana has won the Emily Dickinson International Award for his second book Pills and Potions.
Rana’s first book, Iridescent, was nominated for the Emily Dickinson award in 2023. He becomes the first poet from the North East to win the award.
“I was beyond stoked, and the feeling, to be honest, was surreal to say the least,” said the young poet, who was also recognised by the American Poetry Society.
In an earlier interview with the Meghalaya Monitor, Rana stated that he does not follow a particular genre and enjoys exploring all forms of poetry. His second book, which has a collection of 29 poems, is a “profound and poignant narrative journey into the intricate and often painful emotional landscape of attachment”.
“Through a series of interconnected stories, He examines the anxieties of commitment, the quiet fears of loss, and the silent sacrifices we make in the name of love. His signature lyrical style has evolved into a bold, resonant mapping the full, complicated territory of the human heart,” reads the description on an e-commerce platform.
