Shillong, Sep 29: The working president of Meghalaya State Olympic Association, John Kharshiing said on Friday that the names- Sohra and Meghalaya are still alien to the residents of the country.
Addressing a press conference to announce the preparation for the 2nd Sohra International Half Marathon to be held on Saturday, Kharshiing said, “The response from 60 per cent of the participants was where is Sohra and Meghalaya”.
According to Kharshiing even some Assam residents did not know Sohra but they are familiar with Cherrapunji.
He hoped that with the participation of more people, the name and fame of Sohra will be spread.
Besides large number of participants from many parts of the country, six Kenyans are also taking part in the marathon.
G Krishnan, Chief Technical Officer, Athletics Federation of India said this will be an opportunity to showcase the place and the people.
