Shillong, April 17: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said space technology has played a credible role in socio-economic development of nations, impacting diverse sectors.
He was speaking at the precursor meeting for the 4th edition of Space Economy Leaders Meeting (SELM) under the banner G20 at a city hotell on Monday.
He also said the North East Space Application Centre (NESAC) at Umiam continues to provide data which can be used to address flood, dwindling forest cover among other issues.
He said Meghalaya is using drone technology especially to distribute medicines to remote areas.
He said access to information through space technology has guided decision makers to improve governance, make reforms & take steps to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
He is certain that through the coming together of nations of G20, dialogue on issues that affect nations globally can help pave avenues of growth and progress together, in line with the theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.
“India’s G20 presidency has come at the right time as our nation is at the forefront in many frontiers globally and is making new strides in development”, he said.
