Shillong, Mar 28: Spanish nun Sr Rosario Lopez Herrera who served mostly Garo Hills, passed away on Thursday. She was 92.
“Our hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Sr. Rosario. Born in Granada, Spain, she dedicated over 40 years to serving the people of Meghalaya, particularly in Garo Hills, where she tirelessly worked with people with disabilities”, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said in his message of condolence.
As a founding member of Nazareth Hospital and the driving force behind the Bethany Society formed by her in 1986 for the blind and disabled, her impact is immeasurable. Fluent in Garo and Khasi, she immersed herself in the community, leaving a legacy of compassion and service, the chief minister said, adding though she may have passed at the age of 92, her spirit and contributions will forever remain etched in our hearts.
