Shillong, Jan 27: SPARK, a city-based NGO, celebrated this Republic Day with underprivileged children in the city and on its outskirts on Thursday.
There were more than 300 children attending the programme in all the centres of SPARK, namely Motphran, Mawlong, Mawlynrei, Pongkung and Rangmen.
The highlights of the programme were the hosting of the tricolour, national anthem and other cultural activities performed by the children.
Among the participants were ragpickers, domestic helps, school drop-outs and other underprivileged children from East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi who are devoid of basic rights as children and human being.
Shima Modak, president and founder of SPARK, said the occasion was to make them feel relaxed for a day and enjoy as a child would.
