Shillong, Oct 13: Assembly Speaker Thomas Sangma will take more time to accept the merger of eight UDP MLAs with the BJP.
The eight MLAs led by BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai met the Speaker on Tuesday ( Oct 13) to follow up on merger.
“We had sumitted the merger documents to the Assembly Secretariat in the absence of Speaker, we have come here to meet him and reiterate the merger”, said the leader of the group Lahkmen Rymbui, while speaking to reporters.
Later, the Speaker said he is seeking legal opinion regarding the merger to avoid any room for contesting his decision
The Speaker also said that the 10 days’ deadline given to the president of the UDP Merbah Lyngdoh to correct the application for disqualification of the UDP MLAs, ends on October 14.
Earlier, the UDP challenged the merger and filed an application for disqualification of the MLAs.
