State BJP leader disagrees with Biren

Ex-Manipur CM posted video of PA Sangma advocating smaller states

Shillong, April 2: Meghalaya BJP leader AL Hek has disagreed with his party leader in Manipur N Biren Singh who recently posted a video of PA Sangma advocating creation of smaller states, including Kukiland.

According to Hek, there is nothing wrong in demanding smaller states.
“Garo also wants Garoland and Khasis also want Khasiland so what is wrong to ask for a small state. Is there anything wrong to ask for small state? There is no problem at all,” Hek told reporters on Wednesday.
Hek, who is also a cabinet minister, did not want to comment on the war of words  between former Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh and chief minister Conrad Sangma on the issue.
Biren had commented on his social media post: “The late Shri PA Sangma once advocated for dividing the Northeast into smaller states along ethnic lines, a dangerous idea that threatened the unity of our nation Today, we are seeing similar attempts to interfere in Manipur’s internal affairs to destabilise the state”.
In reply to a question, Hek said, “I don’t have to say anything about the tussle between A or B. I am only for the interest of the people and the state of Meghalaya”.
Hek also asserted that the tussle is not between the BJP and the NPP.
“That is not between NPP and BJP but I have nothing to say regarding the tussle between two persons,”he added.
Earlier, Conrad and NPP leader Marcuise Marak had reacted against the stand of former Manipur chief minister.
One nation one election
When asked, Hek said one nation, one election is the best policy.
The proposal of simultaneous conduct of elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies will to a great extent minimize the expenditure aspects of it, he said.
“Today, we have so many elections in a year. In every election they will introduce the model code of conduct. If the model code of conduct is in place, it will hamper so many developments. So many elections lead to so many days of model code of conduct and so much expenditure will be involved. Who will be the ultimate loser, it is the citizens and people of the country,”he said.
Hek said,  “I have no problem winning or losing election but my concern is only for the development of the state and how to minimize unnecessary expenditure of the country and state of Meghalaya.”
Garo Hills polls
Asked whether the BJP will contest the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections to be held next year, Hek said BJP is the only party, which does not work only during elections.
“BJP is working throughout whether there is election or no election or work but BJP is working 24X7 for the people,” he said.
“We don’t hold meetings only before elections. What for we are a political party if we are not contesting  the elections,” Hek added.
