Black listed companies hurdles for smart meters

Shillong, May 13: The state government is coming up with a 10-year plan to improve power scenario in Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Power Minister AT Mondal said, “As per power scenario in the state is concerned, we are growing in a steady way although our growth is little bit different compared to other states, we are coming up with a comprehensive-adhesive plan for 2035”.
According to Mondal, the government is in constant touch with the Ministry of Power in this regard.
“We are flagging the issues which can be helped by the ministry. All these matters are being taken care of and we are making our upgradation plan in terms of power scenario, manpower and everything including our system upgradation before we reach 2035. We are working on it and we are taking everybody into confidence.”
Mondal said the government will have to upgrade the system.
“After completion of Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), we will be reaching to a very nice position because the work has been started and it is going on. Second thing is that to reduce our losses with RDSS and there is the installation of smart meters which will also minimize our losses and upgrade our revenue collection. We are also looking forward for trasmission and generation. We will be taking all into account to see that we are well placed when we reach 2035.”
Regarding smart meters, the power minister said black listed companies are hurdles for finalising tender for smart meters.
“We have taken up the matter with the union power minister as we come to know about the black listed companies only at the fag end of the tender process”, Mondal said.
