State delegation to pursue language recognition issue

Shillong,July 15: Arts and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh informed on Saturday that a state government delegation will visit Delhi to follow up on the inclusion of Khasi-Garo language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

Speaking to reporters, Paul said the state Assembly had adopted a resolution recommending inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.

“This time around, we also plan to visit Delhi and meet all the concerned ministers including the prime minister in order to push for the demand for inclusion of Khasi language to its logical end,” he said.

ILP issue 

Regarding the delay in implementing the inner line permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, the minister admitted that this matter is also hanging fire.

“It was under the consideration of the MHA and has also gone to the parliament. This will also form part of the agenda when we visit Delhi which will happen very shortly,” Paul said.
