State facing shortage of 150 specialist doctors: Ampareen
Shillong March 27: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday said the state is facing a shortage of around 150 specialist doctors.
In reply to a question by Mayralborn Syiem (UDP-Nongpoh), Ampareen said shortage of specialists is a matter of concern.
She said the state has a total sanction of 375 specialist doctors of which 227 are posted.
She said in the recent recruitment conducted by the Medical Recruitment Board, 397 new medical officers were recruited of which 83 are specialists.
“However, still there is a gap of 150 specialist doctors in the state which indeed is a cause of concern,” Lyngdoh said.
Medical college in Ri Bhoi
To the question by Mayralborn for setting up a medical college in Ri Bhoi being an aspirational district in the state, Ampareen said the proposal is under consideration of the government.
She said the government is also intending to establish more health institutions like PHC, CHC and sub centres.
