Shillong, Nov 30: The state government has filed a status report to the 18th interim report of Justice BP Katakey (retired) which had revealed illegal coal mining in Jaintia Hills.
After hearing the pending PIL on Thursday, the division bench comprising acting Chief Justice HS Thangkhiew and justice W Diengdoh listed the matter for hearing on December 6.

Earlier, Katakey wanted a probe into the missing coal of 13 lakh MT though the state government had claimed that the extracted coal is 32 lakh MT.
However, a reverification had revealed there was only 19 lakh MT of coal and not over 32 lakh as stated by the government.
