State has no money to clean Wahumkhrah: Minister
Shillong Oct 20: Water Resources Minister Comingone Ymbon has said the Centre did not give nod to the state government’s proposal for sanctioning Rs 600 crore for cleaning and reviving the Wahumkhrah river.
“Unfortunately, the central government did not sanction the scheme. We had proposed around Rs 600 crore for reviving the river,” Ymbon told reporters on Friday.
As part of the project, the proposal was to construct check dams and water treatment plants for every house along the stretch of the river Wahumkhrah.
The minister said the state alone can’t provide Rs 600 crore.
“If we don’t get the sanction, how can we clean the river? The state government doesn’t have so much money. It is difficult for us to bear from the state government to clean up such rivers,” he said.
However, the minister assured to pursue the matter with the Centre.
