State journalists in Karnataka to explore central projects, local culture

Shillong, Oct 13: A 14-member media delegation from Meghalaya and Tripura started a press tour to Karnataka on Monday to explore key central government establishments, flagship development projects and the rich cultural heritage of the state.

The initiative, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Shillong in coordination with PIB Bengaluru, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is designed to enable journalists from the region to engage directly with institutions of national importance and highlight their stories for readers and audiences back home.

The delegation includes 11 Journalists from Meghalaya and two from South Tripura, representing a mix of print, electronic and digital media. Meghalaya Monitor editor EM Jose is also part of the delegation.

The delegation will visit major scientific and industrial institutions, including the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

In addition to institutional visits, the itinerary includes immersive cultural and heritage experiences across Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Mysuru, with a special focus on sites such as the Mysuru Palace, allowing the delegation to witness Karnataka’s rich traditions and architectural legacy.

The tour also covers sectoral engagements with visits to Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited in Mysuru, a field visit to Chamrajnagar district to observe agricultural and allied sector activities and an interaction with tribal communities through a visit to a Thanda (tribal village).
