“We are yet to take a call because first of all, we will try to take everybody – all stakeholders – on board. When everybody is on board then only we will take a call as a government,” he said.

When asked about the suggestion of Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) for high speed luxury rail network to reduce the travel time from Guwahati to Shillong, Dhar said the proposal is good.

“However, these things fall under the tourism department. Maybe I will have to get the inputs from the tourism department on what is the talk as of now as it not my department, it is the tourism sector,” he said .

Smart roads

The government has decided to resurface all important roads within Shillong city.

Dhar said, “The PWD is preparing the estimates to rework on all important roads within the city so that we will get good roads.”

The decision is after the government decided not to go ahead with the construction of the smart road under the smart city project, after it was found not feasible.

“That is smart city phase-II.  Why we abandoned because there is some complication, the project cannot go ahead. In place of that, we are trying to replace from the state government a fresh resurfacing of the road of almost 40-50 kms within the city,” he said.

Dhar further informed that he would get the update from the officers on the present status of the failed smart road in Lachaumiere area and when it will be opened for public use.
