State to follow central law on vending
Shillong, May 18: The state government will introduce the central law on vending.
During the hearing of a case on Wednesday in the High Court of Meghalaya, the state government informed the decision to do away with The Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
The Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers & Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA) had filed the petition.
The court said it was informed that the state proposes to do away with the state enactment and follow the Central statute pertaining to street vending.
It was also informed that the matter is before the cabinet for its consideration for an appropriate ordinance to be issued in accordance with law.
The state also informed the Court that upon the state law being repealed, a set of rules in accordance with the Central statute may be brought into effect immediately.
