Shillong, July 8: Police arrested stepfather for impregnating a minor.
According to a statement by East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem, the special police cell arrested the accused Stoning Kharphuli (38) on Monday night from Syad, Umsning Ribhoi.
The official said on July 1, Mawlai police received a written FIR that the mother of the victim had taken her minor daughter aged around 15 to one sub-health centre in the village and learnt that she was pregnant. When she questioned her daughter about it, she stated that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her on many occasions, the date of occurrence of which she could not recollect. Hence, a case was registered at Mawlai Ps vide Mawlai Ps C/No. 67(7)2025 U/S (j)(ii)(l)(n)(p)/6 POCSO Act R/W Section 351(2)BNS,2023 . The victim was taken to Ganesh Das Hospital on July 1 on being referred from the PHC for further tests, whereby she was admitted at GDH and discharged from the hospital on July 7 evening .Attempts were made to arrest the accused by Mawlai police but he was absconding to evade arrest. Later, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills effected the arrest.
