Support swells for Mukul Sangma
Tikrikilla, Feb 1: All the communities in Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills had approached Trinamool Congress’s Mukul Sangma to contest from the constituency, said a member of the Rabhas on Wednesday.
The secretary of the Rabha community here, David Juro (in picture left), said on Wednesday that the community is supporting Mukul because he is not only a strong leader but also listens to people’s problems with patience.
“There are over 7,000 voters’ from the community. We are with him. Also, other communities, like the Hajong, Muslims and other non-tribals, are supporting him,” he added.
Juro, who is a contractual teacher, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma would never give time to listen to the problems and his attitude is unlike a leader. He also informed that the sitting NPP MLA, Jimmy D Sangma, did nothing for the development of Tikrikilla, one of the least developed pockets in Garo Hills, in the last five years.
“Even during the pandemic, we did not get any relief,” he added.
Romar Sangma, who is the block secretary of the Trinamool Congress, seconded Juro. “There is no development here. NPP has corrupt leaders who think only about themselves,” he added.
There are over 14,000 Garo voters and over 10,000 Muslim voters in the constituency, Sangma informed.
The BJP is yet to announce its candidate. Juro said there are two ticket seekers, Dormonath Sangma and Roynath Rabha.
Earlier, Jimmy had termed himself as a ‘local’ who is being pitted against an ‘outsider’.
According to Jimmy, the voters are looking for a local candidate who can address their problems.
