Teachers suspend agitation, to wait for salary enhancement

Shillong, April 29: The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) will intensify agitation if the state government does not give ear to the demand for enhancing the salary of adhoc teachers within a week.
FASTOM general secretary Andrew Lyngkhoi told reporters that the teachers have decided to suspend the non-cooperation movement from May 2 to May 8, after getting positive response from the education department.
The Additional Chief Secretary in-charge Education DP Wahlang and other officials in a meeting held on April 28 had informed the delegation of the FASTOM that the file regarding the matter has been forwarded to the planning department for necessary action,
“Since the response from them was positive, we decided to temporarily suspend our agitations starting from May 2 to 8,” he said, while urging the teachers to resume duty.
The FASTOM had initially demanded upgradation of all adhoc teachers to the deficit system.
However, now they are demanding the state government to consider Rs 18,000 salary enhancement to all categories of adhoc teachers from lower primary to higher secondary schools.
